Why Tabletop Knights?

foreword

Thank you for taking some time to learn more about TTK. I’m incredibly excited to grow this organization and its mission. This passion project grew out of my love of RPGs and tabletop games, and the desire to make a difference in the lives of others. I’ve been working with nonprofits for most of my life, and have spent years running long term D&D campaigns. I had a deep desire to connect both of these, and with the help of good friends and fellow gamers, TTK was born. We have many ambitions beyond our initial focus of running events for charity—take a look at our short term and long term goals below. This project is close to my heart, and I truly believe RPGs can make a difference in all of our lives. - Jesiah McCann, Founder

About TTK

Tabletop Knights is a non-profit 501c3 organization. We believe that tabletop gaming can be used to help other people and strengthen our communities. There are multiple avenues that we take to achieve these goals.

Since obtaining non-profit status in 2018, we’ve focused on structuring our organization and building a network of volunteers. Now with a strong foundation in place, we are focusing on the below initiatives that further our goal.

Tabletop Gaming Events for Local Charities

People want to jump into RPGs like Dungeons and Dragons now more than ever but it can be hard to find a good ‘one-off’ game, let alone a long term campaign. Our organization provides skilled DMs (Dungeon Masters or Game Masters) to help folks have access to play, as well as the best gaming experience.

To accomplish this, we are building a network of DMs/GMs and tabletop gaming volunteers. Through this network, we put on various gaming events to raise money for local charitable organizations and to help those who are in need.

Events connect DMs with players and include D&D tournament style events, DM competitions, and open gaming.

Additionally we offer professional DM services. A donate-to-play system that connects our network of DMs to groups who want to go deeper in the quality of their games, stories, and immersion.

We continue to identify local charities to partner with in the Northern Virginia, Maryland and DC area. Our initial focus is on:

  • Youth Development, Shelter, and Crisis Services

  • Food Banks, Food Pantries, and Food Distribution

  • Multipurpose Human Service Organizations

Building others up through Role playing games

RPGs can be a powerful tool in any community, the workplace, and youth programs.
Through our network of DMs Tabletop Knights aspires to build confidence and social skills, reduce anxiety and insecurity, and teach cooperation. Connecting with others through gaming can allow for healing, personal growth, and overcoming adversities. TTK generates gaming material (Adventures & Campaigns) aimed at creating an RPG experience that’s a positive force in the lives of others.

We support other charitable organizations with Care Packages. Some youth centric organizations want to utilize D&D or other role playing games to further their purpose, but might not know where to begin. We build care packages filled with everything someone needs to get started in helping others with RPGs.

The Future

There are many ways RPGs and tabletop games can change people’s lives. TTK has multiple areas of growth, and future plans to pursue ways to help others through gaming. These include:

  • Bringing tabletop games and materials to underprivileged areas, impacting local communities through mentorship.

  • There are growing studies showing how RPGs can be used to aid in therapy.

    • Exploring how RPGs can aid mental health by partnering with other organizations who are actively researching

    • Partnering with counselors and other mental health professionals to help adolescents struggling with social anxiety
